About the Artist

Martie Genger (1936) is one of the most unique and versatile artists on Curaçao. Her way of working and where she is at in life is very inspiring. Genger's work is monumental. She is inspired by themes that are important for her. The material she uses depends on the emotions she wants to portray. In the exhibition ‘In de Beginne’ (In the Beginning) she interprets human emotions by means of magnified knitted sweaters.

 

Martie Genger was born in The Netherlands and moved in 1969 with her husband to Curaçao. She has furthermore lived for eleven years in Costa Rica. There, she also led a very productive artistic life. The exhibition that she now shows has hung in Galería de Arte Nacional Contemporraneo where it has attracted thousands of visitors. Martie lost her heart to Curaçao and wants to see her work spread among the local population.
